08/09/2008 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Garret Anderson and Vladimir Guerrero each homered and drove in two runs as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim used a late blitz to steamroll the New York Yankees, 11-4, in the second of a three- game weekend set.
Juan Rivera added two hits and two RBI for the Angels, who have won four of five. Mike Napoli and Mark Teixeira each hit solo home runs.
Scot Shields (5-3) picked up the win with a scoreless eighth. Starter John Lackey yielded nine hits and three runs over seven innings, with five strikeouts and one walk.
"I made a couple of mistakes, but I was able to see my way out and make some pitches," Lackey noted. "That eighth inning was fun to watch. This is a fun place to be right now."
Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi homered for the Yankees, who have dropped two in a row and four of six. Ivan Rodriguez collected two hits and scored twice, while Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter added an RBI each.
Edwar Ramirez (3-1) had a disastrous relief outing in defeat, charged with four hits and five runs -- four earned -- without retiring a batter. Yanks starter Dan Giese fared better in the no-decision, allowing three hits and one run in six full frames.
The Angels roared to life and broke a deadlock with an eight-run eighth inning.
Guerrero greeted Ramirez with his 21st homer of the season -- a blast to right-center -- which put the home team up 4-3 on its fourth solo home run of the contest.
Torii Hunter followed with a double and Anderson singled him home. Howie Kendrick reached on a Robinson Cano error, stole second, and Rivera brought two in with a double for a 7-3 advantage. David Robertson was called in for Ramirez, but allowed a Napoli single and a Chone Figgins base hit which scored pinch-runner Gary Matthews. Figgins swiped second to put runners on second and third, and a wild pitch plated Napoli.
A single by Maicer Izturis scored Figgins, and Teixeira's groundout moved Izturis to second. Guerrero's RBI single pushed the lead to 11-3 before Robertson fanned Hunter and Anderson swinging to end the onslaught.
"We didn't make quality pitches," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi about his ineffective bullpen. "Vlad's home run, the ball was up, Garret's homer, the ball was up. Ramirez didn't make those quality pitches he's been making all year."
In the ninth, Justin Speier allowed hits by catcher Rodriguez and Melky Cabrera which led to Jeter's sacrifice fly and the final count of 11-4.
"It started with John (starter Lackey) keeping us in the game," Teixeira said. "We had some good defense behind him, then our offense finally got going. It was a good team win."
The Yanks snapped a scoreless tie in the sixth, as third-baseman Rodriguez and Giambi hit consecutive one-out solo homers for a 2-0 edge.
Teixeira went deep for the Angels in the home half, cutting LA's deficit to a run, but New York answered in the seventh. Ivan Rodriguez led off with a single, moved to third on Cabrera's base hit, then scored when Damon dumped a single to center.
Anderson and Napoli added solo homers in the home seventh which knotted the game, 3-3.

Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
