The 25-year old McCarthy will make his season debut as he spent much of the campaign on the disabled list with right forearm inflammation. He has made seven starts at the minor league level and went 1-1 over a total of 31 2/3 innings.

Last season with Texas, he went 5-10 with a 4.87 earned-run average in 23 games (22 starts). He established career-highs in wins, starts and innings pitched (101 2/3 innings).

To make room on the roster, the team optioned pitcher Kameron Loe to Oklahoma. In seven relief outings with Texas this season he is 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA.
