White Sox, O's resume set in Baltimore

Baseball Betting Lines

08/26/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Lanky right-hander Gavin Floyd makes his second career start against Baltimore tonight when the Chicago White Sox head to Camden Yards to meet the homestanding Orioles in the middle game of a three-game series.

Floyd, a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies who broke in with the Phillies before heading to Chicago prior to the 2007 season, met the Orioles for the first and only time on April 17 of this year.

He pitched six innings and allowed just two hits and two unearned runs in that outing, which was part of a four-game unbeaten string to begin Floyd's 2008 breakout season.

Floyd's since improved to a career-best 13-6 and is in the midst of a six- start unbeaten streak, during which he's gone 3-0 individually and the White Sox are 5-1 as a team.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder allowed six hits and three runs over six innings in his most recent start, scoring a 15-3 defeat of the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 20 in Chicago.

For the Orioles, lefty Brian Burres returns from a nearly month-long stint at Triple-A Norfolk.

The 27-year-old began the season with Baltimore and made 22 appearances and 19 starts, but was demoted following a pair of dismal outings in late July when he allowed 11 hits and nine runs in just three innings against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and New York Yankees.

He'd gone seven straight appearances without a loss prior to that stretch, establishing a new career-high with seven wins after a defeat of the Boston Red Sox on July 11.

Burres reached the majors and made 11 relief appearances with the Orioles in 2006, then appeared in 37 games and made 17 starts while going 6-8 in 2007.

He is 1-1 in three lifetime matchups with Chicago, posting a 5.91 ERA in 10 2/3 innings.

On Monday, Alexei Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two runs scored as the White Sox downed the Orioles, 4-3. Jim Thome hit a solo home run while Ken Griffey Jr. drove in a run for the White Sox, who dropped two of three against Tampa Bay over the weekend.

Clayton Richard (2-2) got the win as he gave up three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts in six innings of work for Chicago, which holds a one-game lead over Minnesota, which lost to Seattle, 4-2, in 11 innings on Monday, for first place in the AL Central.

Jay Payton went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Kevin Millar and Ramon Hernandez each drove in a run for the Orioles, who have dropped three straight coming into Monday's action.

Chris Waters (2-1) suffered his first career loss as he gave up four runs -- three earned -- on five hits with a pair of walks and strikeouts in seven innings of work.

It wasn't the first game of the day at Camden Yards, though, as before the game the teams completed a contest that had been suspended in the 11th inning on April 28 due to rain.

Lou Montanez's RBI single in the 14th inning gave the Orioles a 4-3 win over the Sox to complete the rain-suspended contest. Chicago was the home team since the teams did not meet in Chicago for the remainder of the season after the suspended contest.

Chicago has won four of its seven matchups with the O's this season.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds

With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season.  What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season.  Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all.  Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13).  Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two.  Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury.  Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven.  Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury.  Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.

In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
