White Sox P Contreras leaves game

Baseball Betting Lines

08/09/2008 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Chicago White Sox pitcher Jose Contreras left Saturday's game in the top of the second inning due to an apparent ankle injury.

Contreras was running toward first base to cover on a ground ball hit by Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury. On the exchange with first baseman Nick Swisher, Contreras dropped the ball, then appeared to lose balance and step on the bag awkwardly.

After being attended to by trainers for several minutes, he was helped from the field. Right-hander D.J. Carrasco was called on to pitch for Contreras.

It was a bit of tough luck for the Pale Hose starter, who was activated from the 15-day disabled prior to the contest.

Contreras had not pitched since July 13, and was on the DL with right elbow tendinitis. In 19 starts this season, Contreras has gone 7-6 with one complete game and a 4.60 earned run average. The right-hander went 6-3 with a 2.76 ERA in his first 12 starts of the year.
